Your fingerprint phrase
Your fingerprint phrase is a short sequence of five simple words — something like alligator-crumb-velvet-anchor-tulip. It looks playful, but it does a serious job: it is a human-readable representation of your account’s public encryption key.
What it’s for
Whenever you need to confirm that a device or a session really belongs to your account — and not to someone impersonating it — you can compare fingerprint phrases. If the words match exactly, both sides hold the same keys. If even one word differs, stop and investigate.
Where to find it
- Open Bitsecrets on your iPhone.
- Go to Settings → Security.
- Your fingerprint phrase is shown in the Fingerprint phrase section.
Good to know
- The phrase is derived from your account's keys — it stays the same until your keys change.
- It is not a password and unlocks nothing on its own; it's safe to read it aloud when comparing devices.
- If two devices signed in to the same account ever show different phrases, contact us before going further.
